March 2015 we visited Barcelona. We flew from Heathrow and stayed in a lovely hotel in an area not too far from the famous les Ramblas but close to local restaurants that served traditional Spanish cuisine. We wanted to combine a weekend break with looking for some inspiration for our tapas menu, we came across many, and one of our favourites was griddled aubergines in honey which we have now added to our Tapas menu.
June 2015 we spent a week exploring the champagne region of France, staying on a small campsite in Thonnance-les-Moulins just outside Joinville. We cooked using the wonderful fresh local ingredients that were available to us and ate out at many cafes and restaurants looking for inspiration for our new hot buffet menu we will be launching this year.
October 2015 we visited Turkey we stayed at the Oykun hotel a family run hotel in the sea side resort of Fethiye. We visited the well-known Fethiye fish market located in the old City, as featured in one of Rick Steins programmes. The theme is you buy the fish of your choice find a restaurant and they cook the fish for you. The duck pond, again in Fethiye is another of our favourite restaurant where they serve traditional Turkish cuisine the mixed platter is to die for. Dishes from both will very shortly appear on our menu.
In April we have been invited by one of our suppliers Delicioso to attend a food show at the NEC in Birmingham to source new ingredients and ideas for our 2016 menu.
This year in June we are exploring The Canal du Midi in the south of France in a self-drive boat with our best friends and staff Cath & Ron. We’d like to create a little of Rick Steins French odyssey experience gathering an insight of the French cuisine along the canal. So watch this space for news and an update on how it goes and the culinary delights we come across on our journey!
